70,000 Flickcharters Pick Their Top 20 of 2010
During 2010, we received over 49 million rankings where movie fans have been placing new films from the year onto their lists and putting them up against the best movies of all time. This list culminates those rankings to generate the movies of 2010 that are highest ranked by all of the users of Flickchart. This list is only accurate up to the day this was published, so if you’re eager to see if things have changed, you can check the daily results at http://www.flickchart.com/charts/2010.

The Scott Pilgrim ranking really shows the bias of Flickchart toward young users (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Haven’t seen it yet, but #2 of the year? Hmmm.
I haven’t seen Scott Pilgrim yet, either, but I’m glad Inception is where it belongs. :)
I don’t know if it’s a bias, but rather that young people tend to use sites like this in greater numbers. If a larger group of older movie aficionados with more varied tastes were to start ranking, things would change quite a bit. Younger people are more likely to just loooove some new movie and rank it it with (perhaps unwarranted) enthusiasm.
I am surprised that Black Swan is so high. I didn’t think it was amazing, but I’m sure that I’d place it over most every movie on this list (I still need to see a number of these, but I’m not expecting a lot). I just saw The Fighter (not on the list) and quite enjoyed that. It’s definitely more dramatically satisfying than Inception, which I don’t believe deserves #1 at all.
There’s nothing wrong with younger people ranking a movie higher than others; their opinions are just as valid as yours. Anyway, great list overall.
I’m not claiming that younger people’s rankings are invalid. In fact, I disagreed that Flickchart was biased toward young people. I just stated that more young people are likely to use sites like this. It is true, however, that younger people are more likely to rank newer movies (particularly youth-oriented) higher than older movie watchers are. This is just a simple fact.
My comment wasn’t targeted towards you. Lol. Sorry ’bout that. But yes, I would agree with that. However, there’s lots of notable films that young people could have voted into the top 100, but they didn’t. They may be young, but flickchart’s youth know quality. And Scott Pilgrim is a quality film (imo).
I didn’t mean “bias” as in Flickchart does anything specifically to court younger viewers — I meant, as you say, that the Flickchart user population shows a “youth bias.” I do think that a younger person who feels passionately about Scott Pilgrim might rank it above, say, Citizen Kane. And they should have the right to do that. It’s just that the younger population will inevitably skew the rankings away from “classics” and toward newer films — and I don’t think there’s any way around it. This is why The Dark Knight and Inception both are ranked so highly in the global rankings. Good films? Certainly. Great films? Possibly. The best of all time? Heavens, no.
(For the record, I’m not some old curmudgeon, only 37. Though I guess that could seem curmudgeonly to some of the tykes out there. And, please stay off my lawn.)

Ahhh. I thought you might’ve perceived my comment as critical. I’m somewhere between the youthful and older group in my perspective, I guess. I kind of miss being excited about new movies like I was back in my earlier days, but my enthusiasm has been traded for wisdom. Or something.
I would’ve watched Scott pilgrim by now, but Michael Cera bugs me. Maybe I’ll give it a shot and hope for the best.

Definitely would recommend watching Scott Pilgrim before commenting about it. It rightly deserved the #2 place, it’s far better than the highly overrated The Dark Knight (interesting that you cite two Christopher Nolan films by the way). And no, I wouldn’t rank it above Citizen Kane. Or Fight Club, Cidade de Deus, Les 400 Coups, Rear Window. But it is a great and very enjoyable film, and I’ve rewatched it several times.
Count me in the “bugged by Michael Cera” group. He wore out his welcome, that’s all. I think the terrible film Paper Heart was the exact moment I could no longer tolerate him, though I did think Youth in Revolt was decent and expect to finally watch Scott Pilgrim in the coming weeks. Who knows, maybe I’ll rank it above Citizen Kane as well.
@Kieran – Cool, I will definitely watch it before any further comment. I think Nolan is great – I just happen to find more value in Memento, Batman Begins and The Prestige than I do in Dark Knight and Inception.

Yeah, I figured you meant that. What I like about Flickchart is that it’s entirely neutral. There’s a lot of older weird and obscure stuff waiting to be ranked. It just depends on who does the ranking. Right now, the biggest group of users happens to be younger and mainstream.
Michael Cera is definitely the biggest obstacle to deal with in the case of Scott pilgrim. I’d hate for him to ruin an otherwise decent movie.
I haven’t seen Black Swan yet, because it won’t be in theaters here until January 28th, but i think the top 6 is pretty accurate (i’ve loved the rest of Darren Aronofsky films i’ve watched so i guess Black Swan will be good aswell).
Scott Pilgrim IS a great movie, don’t let your Michael Cera dislike ruin it for you. And if you guys happen to like comic books, get all 6. The movie is good, but the comic books are way better :)
Scott Pilgrim was an alright movie. I did love the over-the-top action scenes, but the main character, Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) really bugged me, and I couldn’t get behind him as the hero. I mean, this is a guy who would have spent the entire movie dating two women if his girlfriend who’s still in high school hadn’t seen Ramona’s first boyfriend crashing his band’s concert.
It is still a fun movie, but I just really did not like Pilgrim.
