Darren Aronofsky Confirms ‘Noah’ As Next Film
Hot off the heels of critical darling Black Swan (currently ranked #11 of the Greatest Movies of All Time on Flickchart and having earned a Best Actress Oscar for star Natalie Portman), director Darren Aronofsky is ready for something a little different. Having made some of the most critically acclaimed independent films of past several years (Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler) Aronofsky is ready to make his first “big event film”. That film’s subject? The Biblical story of Noah’s Ark.
Aronofsky recently had this to say about the idea: “I don’t think it’s a very religious story. I think it’s a great fable that’s part of so many different religions and spiritual practices. I just think it’s a great story that’s never been on film… I want to make a big event film, and I think it can be that.”
That brings up the question of whether any studio would pony up the dough for a potentially controversial film. But hot off of Black Swan‘s success (and the fact that Fox was pursuing him to direct The Wolverine), Aronofsky may be developing the clout to get it done.
Another thing that might help? None other than Batman himself, Christian Bale, is rumored to be up for the starring role in ‘Noah’. But so far, Aronofsky is neither confirming nor denying that rumor, preferring to remain enigmatic.
Either way, if ‘Noah’ actually makes it to the big screen, it should be an interesting journey.
