Friends of mine saw this during its theatrical run, but I had to wait to rent it (I missed a lot of movies in those days!). I saw it just the once, about a decade ago, but I really did enjoy it. For starters, I thought Stamp really carried the movie; younger viewers may liken it to what Liam Neeson did in Taken, but, as you mention, the real appeal here is his motivation. This is, in a lot of ways, a “least you can do” father story, but one that speaks to our primal sense of protecting the young. It’s a dynamic normally explored in the context of an intimate drama, and seeing it here, as part of a revenge action story makes it more compelling.

I don’t know that I would go so far as to say this is a movie one needs to see before dying, but I do wholeheartedly endorse taking the 90 minutes to invest in it.

  2. Thanks Travis! I definitely have it on the lower end of my “must see” spectrum, but figured it’d be more fun to spotlight a less known favorite here. Glad to find another fan.

Excellent spotlight! I’m usually not crazy about Revenge Flicks, but you’ve sold this one well!
