New Recruit, New Movies, New Features!

2010

We’ve been working hard on Flickchart on our nights and weekends as a two-man show over the past few years to add new features, new movies, maintain servers, and answer all of your awesome questions, suggestions, and feedback. While we try to accomplish everything at once as fast as possible, it’s certainly a challenge for just two people to juggle it all.

With that in mind, we’ve brought on a new recruit for Flickchart who will be on hand to help us, now in a more official capacity. Hope Thompson will be assisting us to provide answers to your feedback on GetSatisfaction, joining in on our discussions on Twitter & Facebook, answering emails, helping to approve all of your movie submissions, and working behind-the-scenes with various elements of the site. Please wish her a warm welcome – we’re glad to have her on-board!

You can find her on Twitter as @HungryTyger, via email at hope@flickchart.com, and of course, on Flickchart at http://www.flickchart.com/HungryTyger.

We’ve also been working internally on ways to speed up our process of approving films, so instead of the weekly batches of new movies, you’ll now see new movies approved daily, or as close to daily as we can! As before, you’ll be able to go to “The Most Recently Added Films” page and see anything that’s newly ready to rank at any time! We won’t be announcing new additions here, or on Twitter or Facebook, so keep checking back to see what’s new!

In addition to all that, we have another new feature that’s nearly complete! We don’t want to spoil the surprise, but let’s just say it will be a great new way to get movies right into the position they should be in. Stay tuned!

Great news! Wanted to ask before but is there any particular criteria used when adding new films or is it simply first in, first out + new releases? From what I gather the “quality” of the film doesn’t appear to be a factor however I’ve noticed some titles have remained in “[pending]” since the submission feature was added. Just curious. Thanks for everything. FC is still a daily visit either desktop or mobile. – sleestakk

Hi Jay,

The stopping point so far has been getting the posters easily, or some submissions having incomplete data (no actors, no genres, etc.) – With our latest changes internally, those issues won’t be much of a problem anymore, so you should start seeing more of those early submissions approved. We’ll be approving mostly on first in/first out, but we may also work to get all submissions of a particular year, director, or actor approved first as well.

Thanks for being a loyal fan and user of Flickchart!

Hey, this is really great news, Nathan. There are a handful of films that I’ve been waiting to be added to the database (mostly foreign) but I’m glad that they might be approved soon.

Also, I’m excited for the new addition, anything to improve the ranking system is awesome news.

Thanks for creating this and administrating…
