For the South By Southwest Film Festival this year, we wanted a way for moviegoers to be able to rank the films as they watch them at the festival. So we’ve dusted off the cobwebs on our mobile version of Flickchart we designed for the iPhone way back in July of 2008 (in about a week’s time), and put a fresh new coat of paint on – in addition to killing several long standing bugs (no more crazy flipped Charts or breaking Haven’t Seen buttons!). We’re now running on a new framework that should be faster, more stable, and a little easier on the eyes – especially for those of you on a nice Retina Display on iPhone 4.
Meet “Flickchart Mobile” – our new simpler name, as our framework should now allow the web app to function well on iPhone, Android, Palm, Blackberry, etc. Just visit http://mobile.flickchart.com on your mobile device, and you’ll be on your way.

For you SXSW folks, there’s a special button in the top right that’s just for you – which will allow you to rank just the movies showing at the festival while you’re on the go. You can also check to see what’s currently the Top 20 ranked movies of SXSW via the Charts view.

We’ve also got a nice new look for Charts, with director details and movie posters to go along with them. For those unfortunate souls who haven’t signed up for Flickchart yet, you can even now register a new account right on the mobile site. Huzzah!
For anyone who’s a longtime mobile user of Flickchart, and especially for those of you not on iPhones out there, please report back and let us know if there are any bugs that need squashing for your particular handheld device. As always, we’ve got more in store for the future of mobile Flickchart (an app in the ‘ol App Store might be on the horizon with features a’plenty). In the meantime, please enjoy the new improvements!
So we’ve been working hard to release a small gift to all of our beta testers who’ve been extremely helpful over the past few months, and we’re very pleased to announce:
Flickchart for iPhone – http://iphone.flickchart.com
For those of you lucky enough to have an iPhone 3G (or the original iPhone), you now have a great way to get in some of those extra rankings while you’re waiting in the queue lines to see The Dark Knight, or during the agonizingly long 30 minutes of commercials playing before the movie starts.
This is a work-in-progress, but the core ranking functionality and the ability to view your top 20, as well as the global charts, are all in place.
We’ll be adding more features to this in the future while we also continue to dig in to all of the great suggestions you’ve been providing us on our Get Satisfaction page, and through your many excellent emails.
We hope you enjoy Flickchart for iPhone, and as always, please let us know what you think.
